Join Team CALHN in the Australian Red Cross Blood Drive

The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Health Services Blood Drive is on again, and CALHN staff are invited to sign up to the CALHN team. Remember: united we give, and united we save lives!

Held each year between 1 April and 30 June, the blood drive brings health teams from across Australia together for a friendly competition to see which team can donate the most blood by 30 June.

Last year CALHN finished third in SA, with staff across the network making 121 donations – it would be great to lift that in 2021!

‘This year, CALHN will be contributing to a nationwide goal of 10,500 donations. We are encouraging everyone – staff, friends and family – to get involved. If you’d like to give more than once, those with suitable veins and blood grouping can donate plasma every two weeks,’ said Cameron Wyers, Manager, Medical Administration, Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Cameron is CALHN’S Lifeblood Champion for this year and the main contact for any queries about joining this life-saving competition.

‘Just keep in mind, if you’ve recently received the COVID-19 vaccination you’ll need to wait 7 days before donating.’

Last year in SA, 1,391 donations were made during the Health Services Blood Drive, equating to 4,173 lives saved. 10,199 donations were made nationwide which equates to 30,957 lives saved across Australia.
