Learn from the past, prepare for the future: this is epidemiology

Research Pulse podcast Season 3 Episode 5

CALHN is a large health network, with 15,000-plus clinical and non-clinical staff members supporting over one million consumer visits to our hospitals and services every year. While daily clinical operations focus on the immediate aspects of patient care and wellbeing, there’s another component of health that takes place behind the scenes.

It’s called epidemiology. Epidemiology is a field of science focused on the ‘how many people?’ and ‘why?’ of diseases and health conditions. Epidemiology helps doctors learn from the past, and design better healthcare for the future.

Working with the University of Adelaide and SAHMRI, CALHN established the Centre for Clinical Epidemiology, also known as the Adelaide Epicentre, in January 2024.

Director at the Adelaide Epicentre is Professor Stephen McDonald, and we welcome him today as our guest on CALHN’s Research Pulse podcast.
