How passion and grit shape
effective healthcare research

CALHN Our People Season 1 Episode 8

Associate Professor Liz Sutton is not your cookie-cutter health researcher. As Director of Research at Central Adelaide Local Health Network, she applies her diverse background and experience to guide effective healthcare on a strong foundation of evidence.

A common misconception about researchers is that they’re white-coated introverts who tinker away in laboratories, disconnected from the real world. In reality researchers are diverse, interesting and passionate people who are highly motivated to make a real difference — like Liz.

Liz brings a background that touches on many core aspects of health, including nursing, biomedical ethics, international development and not-for-profits, workforce training and accreditation, policy, advanced care planning and more.

Research is the creation of new knowledge, or application of existing knowledge in new or creative ways to solve problems. Research gives us insights into what keeps us healthy. It’s also the way we come up with new treatments, new medications and new ways to prevent and manage diseases and conditions.
