Central Adelaide Local Health Network’s vision to be a globally recognised healthcare service was boosted this week, with the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) consolidating its place among the top 15 hospitals in Australia, following the release of 2023’s World’s Best Hospitals rankings.
Royal Adelaide Hospital among the best
As South Australia’s largest research and teaching hospital, the RAH has increased its ranking among the nation’s best hospitals and is now placed 14th in Australia, lifting its position by 3 places in the past 12 months.
The RAH Orthopaedic team also featured among the world’s best specialities, ranked at number 38 this year.
“CALHN is proud to again be acknowledged for its innovation and excellence in patient care and this achievement moves us closer to where we want to be as a world leading health service,’ said CALHN CEO, Professor Lesley Dwyer.
“Our focus on creating meaningful partnerships with our consumers and collaborations with other healthcare leaders has been recognised by these rankings.
“Our position can also be attributed to the commitment of our workforce, including our doctors, nurses, allied health staff and researchers.”
Recent CALHN achievements which have contributed to the improvement in rankings include a world-first human study to develop an alternative site for islet cell transplantation outside of the liver and the use of a revolutionary artificial skin-like template to treat complicated diabetic foot wounds, a development which could save hundreds of patients a year from foot amputations.
CALHN also became the first health network in Australia to implement a tailored professional behaviours model for our workforce.
About the best hospital rankings
The annual rankings are compiled by Newsweek and Statista Inc, a respected global data research firm and are in their fifth edition.
Hospitals are awarded an aggregated score based on multiple factors.
Recommendations from medical experts make up over half of the score, indicating an improved national and international recognition of CALHN’s commitment to deliver excellent patient care driven by world-leading research and innovation.
Patient experience surveys also contribute to 15 per cent of the score, indicating that CALHN is delivering one of its priority outcomes of positive consumer experiences.
